Cagbalete Escapade: Bonsai Island

Rock formation facing the Pacific Ocean

In  Cagbalete Island,  there  is a little islet called Bonsai Island.  It is because of the “bonsai-like” mangrove in the center of the islet  that disappears during high tide.

Trekking to the island was quite a challenge because it’s tide is unpredictable on when the water will get high. Perfect time to visit the place was from 1pm to 4 pm while the water is still low. Be prepared for a long distance walk because the trek was quite tiring and  the island was composed of dried corals and rocks. The bonsai's in island were separate moss and grass filled small islets enduring the strong waves of the Pacific.

According to some locals that they  believe that there was a giant evil shark imprisoned there by a local engkantada and that the shark will someday break free of that stone encasement .  It is a nice island for people who has plenty of time to idle around, rest and escape from the hassle and bustle of city life.

Below are some of the pictures taken from the Bonsai island, Cagbalete, Quezon:

The island is like you are in another world.
